Police appeal for witnesses over mysterious Aberdeen death

Douglas Brandie, Aberdeen
Douglas Brandie, Aberdeen

Two men in Aberdeen could help police work out what happened to a man who died after being found seriously injured in the street.

Douglas Brandie was discovered in Shapinsay Court, in the Sheddocksley area of the city, after midnight on Tuesday last week.

The 59-year-old was taken to hospital with head injuries, but died the next day.

Police are still treating his death as unexplained, but have now revealed they are keen to find two men who may be able to help them piece together his final movements.

Mr Brandie left the Three Lums pub on Lewis Road at around 11.10pm on Monday night.

Officers have previously said he then walked off in the general direction of the Lang Stracht and Shapinsay Court area, where he lived.

Detective Inspector Doug Steele said yesterday: “We are continuing to appeal for information in relation to the death of Douglas Brandie and believe further members of the public could have seen him.

“One of the men is described as being about 20 years old, 6ft tall and was wearing a woollen hat and grey tracksuit top and bottoms.

“The other man is described as being aged in his 50s, 5ft8in tall and was wearing dark jeans.

“This is an investigation into an unexplained death and we are appealing for these men, who were believed to be in the Lang Stracht area, between Tesco and Skye Road at around 11.30pm to midnight, to come forward so we can establish if they have information that could assist with our investigation.”

Two sites either side of Lang Stracht were cordoned off for more than 14 hours after Mr Brandie was found so police could carry our inquiries.

After he died, his family described him as a “much-loved son, brother and uncle”.

A statement said: “He had recently retired and was looking forward to his leisure time.

“He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
