VIDEO: Moment thief hides charity box under his jacket as he robs Aberdeen pub

This is the moment a sneaky thief stole a charity tin from an Aberdeen pub.

Staff at Wagley’s Bar on Exchange Street released CCTV footage of the flat-cap wearing robber after the container – which held about £100 for children’s hospice charity CHAS – vanished.

It shows him sitting at the bar, casually moving the tin closer to him before hiding it under his coat and making his escape.

Police have been informed of the callous theft, which happened at about 9.40pm on Sunday night.

Last night the outraged owner of Wagley’s, Phil Farquhar, said he was “disgusted” that the tight-knit community bar had been hit by the crime.

He added that it was “sick” the man had stolen money from a charity for terminally ill children and vowed to reimburse them for the money lost.

Mr Farquhar said: “I noticed it was missing first thing the next morning and told the police straight away.

“We are in the city centre but we’re still a real community pub, we have a lot of regulars but I’ve never noticed this guy before.

“It’s absolutely disgusting – what’s even worse is that it’s an older guy rather than some desperate drug addict or something.

“I know that it shouldn’t have to come out my pocket to make up for the money this scumbag stole but I can’t stand the thought of ill kids going without – especially at Christmas time.”

The bar has a long relationship with the charity with staff regularly undertaking various fundraising charities for CHAS.

Bar manager Alison Gordon said last night that generous customers meant that the charity tins had to be collected regularly.

She said: “It was very quiet that night and I thought that we would just wait until all the customers had gone before we closed.

“I was sick when I found out what happened. I don’t have the words, I can’t think of anything more sick than stealing money from terminally ill kids.”
