The 51-year-old woman who died yesterday following a collision involving a lorry in Aberdeen City Centre earlier this week has been named by police.

The woman was hit by the vehicle on Market Street at around 8.25am on Wednesday morning.

She has been named as 51-year-old Gwen Thomson from Torry.

Passers by administered first aid to Ms Thomson on the scene until ambulances arrived.

She was rushed to hospital but died from her injuries.

The driver of the HGV involved, a 60-year-old man, was uninjured.

Police closed part of the road for a number of hours as they carried out an investigation at the scene, and officers are still appealing for witnesses to get in touch with them if they witnessed the incident.

Roads policing inspector Jon Barron, the senior investigating officer, said: “Our thoughts are very much with Gwen’s family, friends and work colleagues at this very sad time.

“I would also like to thank those who rendered first aid and went directly to her assistance until the arrival of the ambulance and police.

“We have spoken to a number of witnesses to the incident already. However, I would urge anyone who hasn’t yet been in contact with us to do so in order to help piece together exactly what happened.”

Those wishing to get in contact with the police regarding the incident are urged to phone 101.
