Plans for major new hotel, retail, and residential development in Aberdeen city centre

Plans have been lodged to create a major new hotel, retail, and residential development in the heart of Aberdeen.

Atholl Square Developments, which owns Atholl House on Guild Street, has submitted a proposal of application notice which – if approved – would transform the site.

The scheme would include a hotel, restaurant, shops, serviced apartments, student accommodation, and offices.

And in order for the scheme to move forward, the height of the building would also be increased.

Ellandi, which owns the Trinity Centre, has already started discussions with the developer.

Richard Hutchinson, asset manager, said: “We are aware of the proposal of application notice for the redevelopment of Atholl House and we look forward to reviewing the detail of the proposals with the developer.”

The plans will now be displayed to the public at two consultation events in the coming weeks, although a date has yet to be officially confirmed.

A senior city councillor said the local authority has also been involved in discussions with the developers.

Finance convener Willie Young said the scheme would be part of wider plans to rejuvenate the city-centre.

He said: “This will help form the masterplan. Now everything is coming together.

“This will be one of the largest buildings in the city. It signifies that Aberdeen is at last open for business and highlights people are wanting to invest.

“We have been in discussions with the owners of the building.

“The city has been stale for years and at long last regeneration is happening.”

It is likely Guild Street will be closed during the construction period if the development goes ahead.

Mr Young added: “But these plans are not pie in the sky. The most obvious option following the plans would be for us to close off Guild Street.

“This is the reason why we haven’t put money into Guild Street because we don’t want to waste money in doing this if it’s to be closed off.”

Atholl Square Developments could not be reached for comment.
