Credit: Kevin Emslie Fire crews were called to contain a fire on the site of the former Aberdeen City Council headquarters tonight. Firefighters from Aberdeen Central tackled the outbreak at the former St Nicholas House site, off Broad Street, at 8.15pm. The fire began inside a steel container on the demolition site. A fire and rescue spokeswoman said: “It was extinguished with one hose reel jet, two breathing apparatus and foam. “The call came in at 8.15pm and appliances are now home.” Nobody was injured during the incident on the site of the planned Marischal Square development. The cause of the fire is not yet known. The spokeswoman added that there were currently no investigations into the blaze. Police confirmed they were called to the scene of the fire, but a spokeswoman could not say whether there would be an investigation. The 14-story St Nicholas House was officially brought to the ground on July 4 following a lengthy demolition process. There are plans for a £107million revamp in Marischal Square aimed at transforming the heart of the city centre.
