Aberdeen mum pulled out woman’s hair in kebab shop

A young mum pulled out clumps of another woman’s hair in an Aberdeen kebab shop during a row about the way she dressed, a court has heard.

Claire Middleton “lunged” at Hannah Somerville in the takeaway on Little Belmont Street after a night out on November 22 last year.

She then tore chunks of hair from her victim’s scalp and left them strewn on the floor.

Yesterday Middleton appeared at the city’s sheriff court and admitted carrying out the assault.

The court heard the 26-year-old, who has similar previous convictions, had entered the kebab shop before hearing Miss Somerville pass a comment about the way she was dressed.

Fiscal depute Jonathan Ward said this had upset her and Middleton was heard to say “do not laugh at me or I will take you outside and batter you”.

The court heard that at that point she lunged at her victim and pulled out her hair.

Mr Ward said a witness then left to go and get the police and when they entered the shop they found her standing with a shoe in her hand and acting in a “highly aggressive manner”.

He said officers had found Miss Somerville standing in the corner of the shop upset.

Defence agent Lynne Bentley told Middleton did not often get to go out in town as she normally has to look after her two children.

As a result the large quantity of alcohol that she had drank had an affect on her judgement, she said.

Sheriff Annella Cowan ordered Middleton, of Flat A, 3 School Road, Aberdeen, to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work.
