Police are investigating a spate of vandalism in Aberdeen’s west end.

Garage doors and other properties were targeted by someone wielding a spray paint can.

Penny and Steve Macdonald, of Gladstone Place, were among the victims.

Self-employed Mrs Macdonald, 54, said: “It is a horrible thing to have happened.

“Our garage is old and needs to be replaced so for us it is not so bad.

“If we replace it and this happens I will be really annoyed.

“Our neighbours have had to repaint their garage door a lot because of this.”

Mr Macdonald, 61, who retired recently said: “The graffiti used to be smaller and more detailed but this stuff was bigger.”

Most of the damage around the west end was done with white spray paint and because much of it was on garage doors in back lanes, it took some residents several days to discover they had become victims.

On the street opposite the Macdonalds’ home, the gate to the primary section of Albyn School had also been sprayed.

Other streets affected included Devonshire Road, Albyn Place and St Swithin Street.

The vandalism is believed to have taken place overnight between Saturday and Sunday and police are appealing for witnesses.

Inspector Ian McKinnon, of the west end community policing team, said: “The west end is a busy area and I would encourage anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to get in touch.”
