Plans for six luxury homes on site of Milltimber Victorian mansion

Plans have been lodged for six luxury homes on the woodland site of a former granite Victorian mansion.

Cala Homes North wants to build the exclusive properties on land formerly occupied by Edgehill House, in Milltimber.

The firm has submitted the detailed planning application for the five-bedroom, granite-walled buildings to Aberdeen City Council.

The original Edgehill House is thought to have been demolished in the 1950s , and was replaced in the 1960s with a one-and-a-half storey home.

It too will be knocked down if the new plans are approved.

The site, stretching to just over four acres, is situated between the North Deeside Road and Culter House Road, off Bellenden Walk.

Managing director of Cala Homes North, Mike Naysmith, said: “We are pleased to be taking forward our plans for Edgehill House in Milltimber by submitting our planning application to the council.

“Our plans have been carefully designed to ensure we create a development that respects the historic setting of Edgehill House and character of the existing community.

“The unique environment of Milltimber provides the perfect backdrop for the Cala specification of new homes.”

The site was once designated as within Aberdeen’s green belt, but was included for expansion in the 2012 Local Development Plan.

Planning permission was granted for the demolition of the existing building and a replacement building in March 2011.

Tree protection plans are in place to preserve the surrounding woodlands, which have links to historical figures.

Lower Deeside councillor – and depute council leader – Marie Boulton said: “It’s a welcome development to the area and I am sure it will be sympathetic to its surroundings.

“That was what the residents in that area wanted – to keep the more traditional design. Edgehill House has historical elements because of some of the people who planted trees there, I think Winston Churchill was one.”

Cala Homes hopes to begin work by the summer if planning permission is approved.
