A consultation on the proposed Aberdeen city centre masterplan was launched today.

Deputy council leader Marie Boulton, along with members of the masterplan project team, kicked off the consultation with an event at at the international market on Union Terrace this morning.

Speaking at the event, deputy council leader Marie Boulton says it’s vital the community feeds into the consultation process.

She said: “It’s important as an elected member that I hear from the public themselves.

“People have been really positive, I’ve spoken to some older people and the things they’re interested in are more basic – like cleanliness and the lighting of the buildings.

“But there is a range of concerns, I’ve spoken to some young ladies who want too see more done to attract young people here and for there to be more on offer as well.”

Some of the key aspects of the proposals would mean the partial pedestrianisation of Union Street and a walkway connecting Union Terrace Gardens with Belmont Street.

The plans have been drawn up by Building Design Partnership (BDP) who led an extensive consultation exercise last year.

The local authority believes the plans could help deliver an additional 11,000 jobs and add £290million to the city’s “gross annual income”.

A full list of consultation events and instructions on how to submit responses is available on the council’s website.
