North-east singing sensation Terry McDermott discusses his touching new charity single

Terry McDermott has come a long way since he wowed American audiences in the Stateside reality music show “The Voice”.

The singer-songwriter hasn’t deserted his north-east roots – he was born in Pitmedden – and still cheers on the Dons at Pittodrie whenever he can.

But now he has become used to recording videos and attending premieres in the company of Hollywood stars.

As the lead singer of Lotus Crush, the Scot has just lent his formidable vocal prowess to help the charity “This Time Tomorrow”, which provides financial support to families and organisations battling cancer or working on research into the disease.

It’s a cause close to McDermott’s heart, as you can tell from his performance with the band in their new video.

He told the Press & Journal: “It’s an amazing charity and I saw at first hand the work they do to help those who have cancer through their ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ programme.

“In fact, I delivered some of the cheques myself and it made me realise that cancer doesn’t just affect those who have it, but whole families, who have to deal with the fact bills aren’t being paid, the banks want their mortgage payments, and life can be very grim.”

The group premiered the song “This Time Tomorrow” at a Milwaukee gala, which was hosted by Tinseltown duo, C Thomas Howell and Jeff Daniels.

The latter is most famous for “Dumb and Dumber” and “The Newsroom”. But he’s also a nifty musician.

As Terry said: “He is good, surprisingly good and we had a fantastic time with him. It was just an incredible occasion. And the fact we raised $150,000 at the gala was humbling.”

100% of the proceeds from the song will go to charity. So why not give it a listen?
