An Inverness woman and a Liverpool man appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday on drugs charges.

Ruth Wardhaugh, 49, and 23-year-old John Hartley made no plea, and were committed for further examination.

Wardhaugh was released on bail and Hartley remanded in custody.

A Forres man appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday on charges of rape and other sex offences.

James Allan, 65, made no plea, was committed for further examination and released on bail.

A 27-year-old Inverness man who repeatedly punched another man in Castle Street on January 13, last year had sentence deferred for a background report.

Gary Peden of Rossal House admitted assaulting Kenneth MacGregor who sustained a cut eye and bruising to his face, Inverness Sheriff Court was told.

A Black Isle teenager who moved north from Glasgow was sent to detention for six months yesterday after making a hoax 999 call to police, 12 hours after she was warned by a Sheriff to behave.

Elizabeth Gibson, c/o Grampian Prison, appeared from custody after being bailed at Inverness Sheriff Court on Friday.

The 19 year old had admitted making hoax emergency calls and Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood decided against imposing a custodial sentence.

But her defence lawyer, Neil Wilson said his client had expected to be jailed and went out and committed a similar offence a few hours later.

He added that Gibson previous offending involved similar behaviour which she can’t explain.
