A man has appeared in court accused of stealing jewellery worth more than £100,000 from a house in Moray.
Scott Wilson, 30, faced a charge of theft by breaking into a property when he appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court.
He is accused of committing the offence at a house in Buckie’s Cathedral Street last month.
In an appeal to the public last month, police said rings, necklaces, watches, bracelets and earrings were taken at some point between 9pm on March 8 and and 3pm the following day.
The family who reported the theft, who asked not to be identified, described the jewellery as being of “sentimental” value.
They said in a statement: “The jewellery stolen has been collected throughout a lifetime and many of the items taken have sentimental value and cannot be replaced.
“We are devastated by what has happened and ask that anyone who may have information, no matter how small, which could assist police gets in touch with them.”
The family had also offered a £1,000 reward for any information which could help police in their investigations.
Wilson appeared in private on petition at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday facing one charge of theft by housebreaking.
He made no plea and his case was continued for further examination. He was remanded in custody.
