A north-east man is facing prison after attacking an ill neighbour with a screwdriver then smashing a glass coffee table over him.
Craig Brown, 38, carried out the vicious assault in a flat in the city on September 13 this year.
He then robbed his victim – who has a degenerative disease – of his bank card, mobile phone and a television valued at £1,000.
He appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to assaulting his victim to his injury and permanent disfigurement and robbing him.
Fiscal depute Lucy Simpson said Brown had been drinking before he entered his neighbour’s flat at around 5pm.
He picked up the man’s mobile phone and began using it without asking.
After a disagreement between the two, she said he had “started to behave aggressively, throwing items around the kitchen”.
He then told the man he would “lay into him” and began punching him.
Miss Simpson said: “Brown picked up a screwdriver and struck him on the head and body and told him not to get up or he would kill him.”
He then grabbed a coffee table and hit the man with it, causing it to shatter across the room.
“The complainer could feel pieces of glass under him and that he was being pushed into them,” Miss Simpson added.
The victim was eventually able to escape and ask a neighbour for help.
Police later found him “covered in blood” sitting on the front step of the building.
He was taken to hospital with cuts all over his body and required antibiotics as Brown had also bitten him during the struggle.
The man was discharged three days later and warned he would bear permanent scarring.
Brown’s solicitor, Graham Sutherland, said his client had “no recollection” of what happened.
He asked Sheriff Morag McLaughlin to order social work reports “before deciding how long my client will spend in custody”.
Brown, whose address was listed in court papers as HMP Grampian, will be sentenced next month.
