‘What a relief!’ Bar boss who posted ‘sex’ video cleared of crime after police drop case against her

A “relieved” bar boss has revealed that police will take no further action over a Facebook video, which appeared to show two pub-goers having sex in front of her customers.

Michelle Ward, the owner of Number 44 Hotel and Bar in Stonehaven, has spoken of her “amazing sense of relief” that no one will be charged over Sunday night’s raunchy incident.

A police probe was launched after she posted CCTV footage of the uninhibited couple getting intimate, in an appeal for help to identify the man and woman and report them.

A man, who lives locally, eventually came forward to apologise for what he insisted was only a lap dance, not sex.

But officers then confiscated Michelle’s mobile phone and told her that she may have committed a crime by releasing the video.

Today, a Police Scotland spokesman confirmed: “Enquiries are now complete and no crime has been established”.

Michelle said: “The police said they had someone look at the footage to see if a crime had been committed.

“They were quite happy that a crime hadn’t been committed when it was revealed that the couple’s clothes were on.

“They gave me my mobile phone back. It was an amazing sense of relief.

“They also apologised for the worry that this investigation has caused me.”

The amorous couple whose gyrating sparked the police probe, however, have been banned from the venue.

“Any time of day, that sort of behaviour is not on,” Michelle said. “Whether they had their clothes on or not, the problem was how it looked and how it was perceived.

“They’re definitely not welcome in my family-friendly bar.”

Lessons learned

Michelle said the whole affair has been a learning experience for everyone.

She said: “It takes a long time to build a family-friendly reputation.

“When you come to a family-friendly venue and it’s still during food service, you have to behave.

“My staff will be a lot stricter on who they let through the door at that time of the evening.”
