Cannabis dealer bulk bought drugs to supply friends over lockdown

A repeat cannabis dealer was caught with hundreds of pounds worth of the drug he’d bought to supply his friends over lockdown.

Ross Kerr had tubs and bags full of cannabis when police executed a search warrant at his address in Fyvie on October 5 2020.

When officers arrived, the 26-year-old told them: “Every bit of weed in that room is mine.”

Fiscal depute Rebecca Thompson told Aberdeen Sheriff Court officers found two tubs and a number of plastic bags containing cannabis in a bedroom.

She said a total of 65.5g of the class B drug was recovered, worth up to £475.

In addition, 1.2g of cocaine was also found, worth up to £100.

Officers also seized £460 in cash.

Kerr ‘did not cope well with lockdown’

Kerr, whose address was given on court papers as Parnassus Gardens, Fyvie, pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis and to possession of cocaine.

Defence agent Liam Mcallister said his client “wasn’t aware” of the cocaine, and that it had been “effectively remnants” of a previous cocaine addiction.

He added: “However, what he fully accepts is cannabis has been a difficulty throughout his adult life.

“This was a good few months into lockdown. Mr Kerr did not cope well with lockdown.

“It could be said his supply operation was limited to friends.

“He was not making any real profit out of it.

“What he was doing was buying cannabis in bulk quantities at discount prices and providing his group of peers with enough cannabis for the period of lockdown.

“He still consumes cannabis but that greatly reduced because of a number of factors.”

Cash seized by Crown

Mr Mcallister said Kerr planned to start college and was looking forward to a “healthier lifestyle”.

Sheriff Andrew Miller said: “You have another conviction for being concerned in the supply of cannabis, albeit from number of years ago.”

He imposed 120 hours of unpaid work, a year’s supervision, and granted a Crown motion for forfeiture of the £460 recovered.
