North-east man banned after driving four-times over drink limit

A north-east man has been banned from the roads after getting behind the wheel when he was four times the drink-drive limit.

Mariusz Treder was caught “swaying” along Aberdeen’s Riverside Drive in his green Peugeot by two off-duty paramedics whilst making his way home to Stonehaven.

The court heard the father-of-three had been out for drinks with friends on August 3 last year, before deciding to drive home at about 2.30am.

Yesterday the 39-year-old Polish national appeared in Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted driving whilst having 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.

Fiscal depute Jennifer Pritchard said: “Civilian witnesses were driving a marked ambulance on Queen’s Road, Aberdeen. They noticed the accused driving a motor vehicle.

“They could see the vehicle had no headlights on and was swaying from side to side. They thereafter followed the vehicle to

Riverside Drive and contacted the police.

“The accused stopped the vehicle on Riverside Drive and was spoken to by the civilian witnesses, as they wanted to check on his welfare.

“They noticed he was unsteady on his feet and his breath smelled of liquor.”

Police were called, and a roadside breath test was carried out.

Solicitor Iain Woodward-Nutt said: He clearly didn’t appreciate how much alcohol he had consumed and he mistakenly reached the view it was OK for him to drive. Thereafter he was brought to the attention of the police.”

Sheriff Edward Savage disqualified Treder, now of Flat F, 27 Queen Street, Montrose, from driving for a year and fined him £500.
