A 71-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash by the side of Loch Ness yesterday.
His was the only vehicle involved in the collision on the B852 between Dores and Inverfarigaig.
It is understood the victim, who had driven up north from England, was taking part in a classic motorcycle rally in the area.
He was driving a classic motorcycle at the time of the crash.
The road was closed for several hours to allow an investigation to be carried out, following the accident, which took place shortly before 12.40pm.
A diversion was in place via Torness.
A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 71-year-old man has died following a one-vehicle collision on the B852 between Dores and Inverfarigaig, near Loch Ness.
“Police were informed of the collision, which involved a motorcycle, shortly before 12.40pm and attended along with other emergency services.
“The next of kin of the man who died have been informed and further details will be released in due course.”
Earlier yesterday, the A86 Spean Bridge to Kingussie road was closed due to a serious accident in Lochaber.
The road was blocked by a two-vehicle collision near the Glen Spean Lodge Hotel between Roybridge and Laggan.
The accident happened at about 8.50am.
A spokeswoman for the fire service confirmed they had sent two crews from Fort William and a further crew from Spean Bridge to the scene of the crash.
They used cutting equipment to free casualties from the vehicles.
The road was re-opened at around midday and an air ambulance attended at the scene.
In a statement issued yesterday morning, police said: “Police Scotland are in attendance at a serious road accident on the A86 at Roybridge.
“The road is closed and will be for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.”
