Emergency services including two air ambulances were called to the scene of a one-vehicle collision on a Highland road yesterday.

The incident, involving a Toyota Hilux pick up truck, occurred near the Fasnakyle Switching Station outside Cannich on an unclassified road.

Fire, ambulance and police all attended as a police spokesman confirmed a call had been received at 9.54am.

Two air ambulances arrived on scene, with one transporting a trauma team from Glasgow to the incident.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 9.51am on Tuesday to attend a road traffic collision at Fasnakyle near Cannich.

“We have multiple resources in attendance, including one ambulance, Helimed Glasgow with our trauma team and our Helimed Two air ambulance.”

The pick up is understood to have collided with a tree before veering off the road and down an embankment.

Firefighters were spotted next to a nearby river as a precautionary measure as emergency services attended to a trapped person.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “We have been called to reports of an RTC near Beauly. Crews from Inverness, Drumnadrochit and Beauly have been joined by water rescue teams from Inverness and Elgin and a heavy rescue unit also from Inverness.

“One person, who was reported to be trapped in the vehicle earlier, has now been freed and is in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”

The spokeswoman confirmed firefighters had used a Tirfor winch, which can be operated by one crew member, at the scene.

The spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed the male casualty in his 40s was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow with the trauma team.

He is described as having serious injuries.
