A potential ordnance device has been found in South Uist.
The coastguard discovered the missile-like object at around 8.50pm.
It has been handed over to police for assessment.
Officers are yet to assess whether bomb disposal experts are needed at the site.
A coastguard spokeswoman speculated it was likely an outer casing shed during a recent exercise at the Ministry of Defence’s Deep Sea Range on the island.
