An eclectic line-up has been announced for a popular side-stage at a north festival.

The Medicine Show Potting Shed is a firm favourite for revellers at the Belladrum Tartan Heart near Beauly, providing support for independent artists.

Kicking things off on the opening Thursday night will be Emma Mitchell and The Greenhouse Jam Band, followed by The Federal with their Highland take on Celtic country music.

The weekend line up features a wide array of acts including the big band blues of Dougie Burns and The Cadillacs as well as Barbaraville-based recording artist singer songwriter Helen McCookerybook, a founding member of The Chefs in 1979, who were much loved by the influential late DJ John Peel.

Also performing will be Scottish country band, The Carloways, Canadian artist Kenny Butterill, blues guitarist Andy Gunn and rising stars The Dark Green Tree.

Highland favourites Davy Cowan and The Storm Chasers, Edinburgh’s The Holy Ghosts and Aberdeen funk band The Oxbow Lake Orchestra are also on the bill, as well as many others.

A festival spokesman said: “The Belladrum Medicine Show Potting Shed Stage has become an area of independence and reflects the music industries move away from the business of old.

“All these acts are cottage industries in their own right and all are cutting their own furrow independently of corporate control.”

Festival organisers have also announced that a new innovation from last year’s festival the 2CV Stage will also be making a return, providing a space for festival goers and artists to mix and match throughout the weekend.

Artists confirmed to be appearing on the stage include Caroline Truslove, Tabs and Willie Macaskill, Love Ancients and Penniless Moth.

Also performing on the main stage at this year’s sold out edition of the festival are headliners The Proclaimers, Manic Street Preachers and Kaiser Chiefs.
