Ballachulish Bridge roadworks almost complete

Roadworks on the Ballachulish Bridge are almost complete, say maintenance company Bear Scotland.

The £380,000 road safety improvement works are scheduled to finish on Wednesday December 17.

The bridge carries the A82 Glasgow to Inverness road over Loch Leven.

Bear’s spokesman for the North West Unit, Eddie Ross said: “Following some delays due to poor weather and heavy rainfall in October, we are now nearing completion with the final resurfacing works due to take place.

“For everyone’s safety, we urge drivers to pay attention to the traffic management measures and temporary signage during the works and drive carefully through the site. The temporary traffic lights will cause some delay and so leaving extra time for travel is advisable, particularly those going on to travel by ferry.”

The extensive refurbishment of the bridge deck has involved the removal of the carriageway surfacing, kerbing and footways.

The exposed bridge deck is being repaired and waterproofed and the kerbing and footways are being reconstructed.

During the final surfacing activities a convoy working system will be in place. Traffic will be restricted to maximum speeds of 10mph and will be guided through the works by a convoy vehicle.

Bear Scotland is working with specialist sub-contractors to carry out the improvements on behalf of Transport Scotland.
