A flu outbreak has forced the Highlands’ main hospital to shut down a ward for several days.
It was unclear last night when ward 2C would be back in action for new admissions.
Three patients were diagnosed with flu prompting the closure announcement on Saturday.
NHS Highland said the move was precautionary after they had tested positive for the virus.
Relatives and friends have subsequently been urged to avoid visiting the ward if possible.
Adam Brown, consultant microbiologist for NHS Highland, said: “By restricting visiting to the affected area it helps hospital staff protect the health, privacy and dignity of our patients.
“We would also ask that people do not come to the hospital to visit if they have, or live with someone who has, had any recent flu like symptoms.
“Ward staff will, of course, be very happy to talk to visitors on the phone so they can get updates on how their relatives are.”
In recent months, a succession of norovirus outbreaks has forced ward closures, usually starting with ward 2C.
