A 53-year-old stroke survivor who drove erratically after taking his medication was fined £400 and banned from driving for a year.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that process engineer Michael Gallagher, of Duncraig Street, Inverness, was seen in the city’s Longman estate and was reported to police on December 7 last year.
Officers stopped his vehicle on Friar’s Bridge and when a breath test for alcohol proved negative, he was taken to Burnett Road Police Station.
Sheriff David Sutherland heard that an impairment test showed that Gallagher was under the influence of some substance and he was charged with driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
Yesterday, he admitted the offence.
Defence solicitor Willie Young said: “He had a stroke a number of years ago and is on a variety of medications, some of which make him drowsy.
“On this occasion, he had no intention of driving having taken his medication. But he was prevailed upon by his grown up son to take him home in his car.
