Police in Orkney have issued a warning after dealing with six incidents of drink driving in just over two weeks.
In the the past fortnight, officers have also detected three speeding offences, three anti-social behaviour warnings to drivers and issued warnings to motorists for driving with lighting or vehicle defects.
A 22-year-old man has appeared at Kirkwall Sheriff Court for allegedly driving while disqualified, while a 70-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with a road traffic collision on the B9050 near Deerness.
Orkney area commander Chief Inspector Matt Webb said: “It is very disappointing that we have had to deal with so many offences on the roads of Orkney in just a few weeks.
“The number of drivers who have been detected drink driving is particularly concerning and will not be tolerated.
“As has been said many times before, taking control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol not only puts your own life at risk but that of every other innocent road user.
“We will be increasing patrols to provide reassurance to law-abiding motorists and detect anyone not following the rules of the road.
“Anyone driving in an anti-social manner or while drunk will be dealt with robustly. Do not risk it.”
