Pupils in Moray have been overseeing the construction of their new school while on work experience.

Elgin High School students Jake Innes, Craig Alexander and Rowan Duncan have been getting an insight into what goes into a multi-million building project.

Once a week, the S5 pupils have been going onto the site to learn about the industry from contractors Balfour Beatty.

The 16-year-olds have been getting to grips with plans and drawings of their new school while preparing themselves for future careers.

Jake has intentions on taking steps to become a structural engineer once he completes his exams.

He said: “It has been really interesting going over the plans and going out on the site to see the work if going on.

“What makes it even more interesting is that it is going to be our own school.”

The experience will also benefit Rowan with his ambitions to be an architect and Craig, who wants to become a mechanical engineer.

About 70 staff are working on the £29million replacement for Elgin High School. Work is on-going on the main school building and sports hall with construction due to finish in October next year.

Once pupils have moved into the new school the old buildings will be demolished to make way for a new artificial sports pitch and car park.
