Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has cancelled a trip to Moray as he continues crunch talks on the UK’s security today.
The senior government minister had been due to visit Forres to canvass support for Conservative general election candidate Douglas Ross.
But yesterday afternoon, Mr Ross confirmed that the visit had been scrapped amid concerns over the rising terror threat the country faces.
Mr Ross said: “After the shocking events in London it was understandable that the Defence Secretary had to remain down there.
“These attacks remind us how fragile life is, and underline the bravery of all in our emergency services and armed forces.”
His SNP opponent in this week’s vote, Angus Robertson, said he was “appalled” by the attacks and that his “heart went out” to the victims and their families”.
Moray’s SNP group began a meeting in Elgin with a minute of silence yesterday afternoon.
Labour candidate, Jo Kirby, Liberal Democrat Alex Linklater and Independent Anne Glen will also contest the Moray seat.
