A man has admitted punching his girlfriend and ripping “clumps” of hair from her head.
Shaun Grant and partner Suzanne Kelly had been out drinking with friends, and had returned to their home in Forres when the attack happened on December 6 last year.
The 23-year-old the assault when he appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday.
Depute fiscal Kevin Corrins said the couple had been drinking with friends, but shortly after they left the accused became angry with Miss Kelly.
He said: “He grabbed her hair and held it with both hands, causing it to come away from her scalp.
“Thereafter he seized her again and punched her once to the top of the head.”
The court heard that Miss Kelly fled to the bathroom and called the police.
Mr Corrins said: “When officers entered they found Miss Kelly to be visibly upset and they were shown a clump of her hair on the coffee table.
“When the officers found Grant in the kitchen he held out his hands and said ‘just arrest me’.”
Following the incident, at Seaforth Place, Forres, Grant was placed on bail which prevented him from contacting Miss Kelly.
But although he went to stay at Guildry House in Elgin – supported accommodation for people with drug and alcohol problems – he breached the conditions, landing him in custody until yesterday’s hearing.
Defence agent Stephen Carty said: “The last 10 days have been a good lesson for my client and it has not been an experience he has at all enjoyed.
“He accepts his liability and responsibility for this incident.
“Matters between him and Miss Kelly are now at an end.”
Sheriff Peter Grant-Hutchison deferred sentence on Grant for six months and ordered him to be of good behaviour.
