A factory worker who was almost four times the drink drive limit has been banned from the roads for more than a year.
Daniel Gorski was caught after police heard his engine revving loudly in Elgin and pulled him over – discovering he was so drunk they had to help him into their car.
Gorski, of Maisondieu Road, Elgin, yesterday admitted drink-driving when he appeared at the town’s sheriff court.
Fiscal depute Alex Swain said the 28-year-old had been out driving on the town’s Mayne Road at about 2.20am on September 2 when police on patrol nearby heard his engine revving loudly.
Officers watched as he drove past them and then stopped his car.
Gorski admitted he had been drinking and when he got out of the car was so drunk that he had to be helped into the police car.
He was then given a breathalyser which came back positive and he was subsequently arrested.
A later test at Elgin Police Station revealed he had 82microgrammes of alcohol in his breath, the court heard. The legal limit is 22.
Defence agent Robert Cruickshank told the court Gorski had been drinking earlier that evening and had not planned to drive but had gone out looking for his girlfriend.
Mr Cruickshank said Gorksi fully accepted he should not have been driving and had pleaded guilty as early as possible.
He said his client knew a ban was inevitable but asked the court to take into account the early plea.
The defence agent also suggested that a drink driver rehabilitation course.
However Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov rejected this and said Gorski clearly knew he should not have driven if he had no intention to do so earlier that evening.
The sheriff disqualified Gorski from driving for 15 months and also fined him £600.
