A Moray man has appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court in connection with a drunken attack on a shopkeeper.
The court heard yesterday how 24-year-old Lee Thompson carried out the offence on March 23 at Girnies newsagent, on Main Street, New Elgin.
The shopkeeper thought Thompson was under the influence of something because he was talking incoherently.
When he threatened to press the panic alarm, Thompson went behind the counter and swung a punch at him without making contact.
When traced later by police, Thompson was found to have a gramme of cocaine on him, with a street value of £50.
Thompson, of 5 Beech Walk, Elgin, admitted one charge of assault and one of drug possession.
Thompson was ordered to pay £500 in compensation to the shopkeeper for the attack. In addition, he was fined £300 for being in possession of the drug.
