The award-winning Scottish Chamber Orchestra will to return to the north-east this month.

Directed by associate artist Alexander Janiczek, the orchestra will perform a selection of classical and romantic pieces at Fraserburgh’s United Reformed Church.

The company will mark the 150th anniversary of Danish composer Nielsen’s birth with a performance of his Little Suite before bassoonist Peter Whelan solos in a piece from fellow Scandanavian composer, Swede Franz Berwald.

A spokeswoman for the orchestra said: “Peter Whelan is in high demand as a soloist and chamber musician across the globe, receiving recognition from audiences and critics alike, including a Gramophone Award for his recording of Vivaldi bassoon concertos with La Serenissima in 2010.

“The concert continues with a performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No 1 with Alexander Janiczek himself as soloist.”

The audience can also look forward to a performance of Hadyn’s Symphony No 99.

Mr Janiczek, previously a leader of the orchestra, has worked across the continent as director of and soloist with several great European orchestras.

In 2008, Mr Janiczek brought the group to Fraserburgh’s United Reformed Church to perform a selection of music from Mozart and Mendelssohn to a sell-out audience as part of a tour of the north and north-east.

Next month’s concert is being held at the United Reformed Church in Fraserburgh on July 10.

The SCO – formed in 1974 – is now internationally-renowned and received Scottish Government funding for its world tours one of the country’s five National Performing Arts Companies.
