If you go down to Aden Park this month you could be in for a frightening surprise.

Visitors to the north-east country park on Halloween will join a carnival of curious creatures – puppets, performers and stilt walkers haunting the woods as part of an annual fright night festival.

The Aden-een event, and accompanying fireworks parade sponsored by Shell, will be presented by performing arts group Theatre Modo on Friday, October 30.

Modo creative director Martin Danziger said: “Over the years tens of thousands of people have enjoyed the Shell Fireworks Parades as hundreds of young people from across north Aberdeenshire, filled with energy and enthusiasm, create celebration of their community and culture.

“Not everybody is aware of the work that goes on behind the scenes and how the Shell Fireworks Parades bring together and engage hundreds of participants from across Aberdeenshire, giving young people real and transferable skills and experiences as they create routines, props and performances for the big events.”

This year the event is based on the Scottish tale, Thomas the Rhymer, who one night was taken under the spell of an elf queen and to the “Fairy Otherworld”.

For those who have enjoyed Aden-een in previous years but would like to get more involved, there are opportunities to support the event by volunteering as a marshall or assisting with the groups on the night.

The woods will be open for the free event from 6.30pm and the fireworks will be held at 7.45pm. Visitors are encouraged to come in fancy dress, and equipped with torches and wellies.
