A busy stretch of road is to be closed for surfacing improvements, with a councillor arguing the move was “worth the inconvenience”.
Work on the section of the A90 Peterhead to Fraserburgh road at Inverugie Bridge will get underway on Monday evening.
It will take place on five consecutive nights between 7.30pm and 6.30am, during which time the road will be closed, and is expected to be completed by the morning of Saturday, August 24.
The £305,000 resurfacing project at the site, north of Peterhead, will address defects in the road surface which will help create a smoother and safer journey for drivers.
A 10mph convoy system will be in place on Friday for the first night of improvements.
The road will be open as normal during the daytime.
Drivers will be diverted northbound via the Howe o’ Buchan roundabout onto the A950 at Mintlaw, and vice-versa for southbound drivers.
Local residents have been consulted in advance of the works, to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise inconvenience.
Peterhead North and Rattray councillor Anne Allan said: “Roads have to be resurfaced regularly, otherwise you are left with potholes which can be dangerous.
“Although the closure of the road might be inconvenient, it has to be done.
“If it makes the road better and safer for everyone, then that’s great, and worth the inconvenience.”
The improvements are being carried out by Bear Scotland, whose north-east representative said: “These works have been designed to improve the general condition and safety of this section of the A90 for motorists.
“The overnight road closures are essential to ensure the safety of both our workforce and road users, and our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.
“We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website, and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”

All waste materials resulting from these road works will be re-cycled in accordance with Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) policies and procedures.
