This week’s Aberdonian has taken a look back at archive images of the stunning Crathes Castle.

1981: Ranger Pipes helps Mrs Margaret Aust of Grampian Orienteers to put up markers for a new wayfaring course.

1983: A Burnett clan tartan sash is presented to Mrs Phyllis Wattie (centre), 9 Wilson Road, Banchory, by Mr J. C. A. Burnett of Leys to mark her Installation as a guide at Crathes Castle. Mrs Wattie and the other women in the picture will be helping show visitors around the castle this summer.
1983: Banchory woman Miss Bessie Brown (centre) is joined by Banchory Venture Scouts and National Trust officials after she had unveiled a plaque to officially open a nature trail for the disabled at Crathes Castle yesterday. The trail was mainly constructed by the Venture Scouts. Three wheelchairs for use on the trail were presented yesterday two from the Kincardine and Deeside Members Centre of the Trust, and one from youngsters at Banchory Academy in memory of pupil Ian Thomson, Birkenbaud, Crathes, who died in a road accident on February 4.
But thanks to a donation of about £16,000 from the oil company Chevron (UK) to the National Trust for Scotland who own the building, the artwork can be saved.
Changes in heat and humidity had been taking their toll of the colourful works which were facing a bleak future at their present rate of deterioration.
Edinburgh-based conservation experts Mr Albert Cummings (left) and Mr Alexander Colthart are restoring the famous 16th century ceiling paintings at Crathes Castle, near Banchory.

Bob, a maintenance officer with Dundee District Council, was taken by surprise when he drove into the grounds during a holiday with friends.
For he is the castles 100,000th visitor of the season.
Its owners treated Bob McMillan and his wife Peggy to a years family membership of the National Trust and a slap-up lunch.
Historic Crathes Castle has given a very special welcome to a very special visitor.
