Elgin nearing loan deal for Arbroath striker Hester

Elgin City manager Gavin Price reckons he is close to completing his summer transfer business as he aims to secure Arbroath striker Kane Hester on loan.

Hester had agreed to join Stranraer on a temporary basis for the first half of the season however that deal is now off after Elgin inquired about taking the 22-year-old to Borough Briggs.

The former Arbroath Victoria front-man, who is a fire-fighter away from football, was given the choice of clubs to go to and opted for the Black and Whites who have moved their training base to Laurencekirk.

Price will also run the rule over trialists in tomorrow’s friendly match against newly-promoted Lowland League side Kelty Hearts, which takes place at Home Street in Aberfeldy, as he looks to add the finishing touches to his squad.

Price said: “We have still got two or three additions to make to the squad. We are eyeing a couple of loan deals that might happen in the next two weeks.

“The game on Saturday will give us a chance to look at two or three trialists who have been in with us this week.

“We’ve got the basis of a reasonable squad, but we won’t be rushing into anything. We will take our time to make sure we get the right ones in rather than signing players for the sake of it.”

Price is also aiming to complete a loan deal for Dundee goalkeeper Kyle Gourlay, after missing out on former loanee Brett Long who joined East Fife after his release by Dundee United.

Price added: “We are speaking to Dundee, nothing has been confirmed yet but the goalkeeping position is one we need filled. Iain Ross was out long-term with an injury last season and he did really well in the last game against Montrose, but we need two goalkeepers to push each other on.”
