McInnes wants Aberdeen to make full use of home advantage

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has urged his side to take full advantage of four home matches in a row.

The Dons have been surprise strugglers in the Scottish Premiership with only six points from their opening five matches, but are favourites to defeat Ross County at Pittodrie this weekend with the Staggies without a point from their six matches.

The Dons will begin the defence of the League Cup on Tuesday against Livingston before welcoming Caley Thistle and St Mirren to Pittodrie.

The Dons are ninth in the Scottish Premiership table, but the Aberdeen manager knows his side can work their way back up the table.

McInnes said: “We look at every game as one we can win and hopefully we can come out of this spell with a
decent amount of points behind us.

“We always have to take each game as it comes, but the fact we have four home games in a row means we need to try to take as much advantage from that as we can.”

The Dons have no fresh injury worries and will welcome back Jonny Hayes for Saturday’s match. The Irish midfielder missed the 2-1 defeat at Parkhead following the birth of his son.

Despite Ross County’s dreadful start to the season, McInnes expects a difficult game against a side eager to impress new manager Jim McIntyre who replaced the sacked Derek Adams earlier this month.

He said: “I have watched their game against Motherwell and it was one they could easily have won.

“Two special goals won the game for Motherwell. I expect Ross County to be difficult opponents as they have always proven to be in the past.

“They will be well organised and play with a lot of energy. They have some decent attacking players who are capable of scoring goals so we know how difficult it will be.

“We are delighted to have Jonny back available for Saturday. We missed his ability to run with the ball against Celtic but his wife needed him more than the team.”
