Jim McIntyre urges Ross County to capitalise on attacking threat

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre has challenged his side to be more clinical in attack.

The Staggies have picked up four points from their last two games following their opening day 2-0 defeat against champions Celtic.

But County were held to a 1-1 draw by St Johnstone in their last outing on Tuesday night, a game McIntyre reckons his side could have won had they been more ruthless.

Composure is crucial as County prepare to face Premiership leaders Hearts at Victoria Park tomorrow.

McIntyre said: “We created very good opportunities against St Johnstone, and with a better final pass we could have scored more than one goal.

“These are small margins, but the players are doing a lot of things well. We’re getting into good areas and moving the ball well.

“We’re threatening, which is the most important thing.

“But what we can learn from the other night is to be a bit more careful in our decision-making process and be a bit tidier with the final pass.”

Attacker Craig Curran has got off a flying start to the new campaign, netting three goals in his last two games.

Curran is the only player to have found the net for the Dingwall side so far this season, but McIntyre is confident others will soon step up to ease the goalscoring burden on the former Tranmere Rovers attacker.

McIntyre added: “It was another good link-up between the attackers, with Liam Boyce laying the ball off and Craig putting it away.

“Craig has hit the ground running with goals which is fantastic, but Liam is also having a part. He was involved in the first goal against Hamilton on Saturday and was involved in the goal on Tuesday.

“Their relationship is strong and long may that continue.

“We had a good goal threat last season – we always looked like scoring. We liked to get the ball wide and put crosses in the box and put defences under pressure.

“We’ve got tricky players in the wide areas, and good variety. Brian Graham gives us something different up front, while we’ve also got young Tony Dingwall and Jonathan Franks who’s still to get a taste of it. There are good options.”
