Ross County midfielder Stewart Murdoch is confident the Staggies can target a return to form this month.

County have suffered four defeats in their last five league games, including matches against Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts, who occupy the leading three places in the Premiership.

Saturday’s game against St Johnstone at Victoria Park is followed by trips to Hamilton Accies and Partick Thistle before the Staggies end the month with home games against Dundee and Kilmarnock.

Murdoch is eager to get back to winning ways and is confident his side can put a good run together.

The 25-year-old, who moved to the Highlanders from Fleetwood Town in the summer, said: “We have played the leading teams in the league and now have a run of games against teams around us in the table.

“Any team can beat another, it is just down to which is the better team on the day.

“December is a big month for us. It’s really important we have a better month and pick up points.”

Murdoch spent two years with Fleetwood, after starting his career with Falkirk and since his return to Scotland, the Aberdeen-born midfielder has been surprised at how even the Premiership has become.

County are sixth in the table but are only six points ahead of Motherwell in the relegation play-off position and Murdoch knows his side cannot afford to take any game for granted.

He said: “From teams right down the bottom, to those near the top, there are surprises every week.

“We went to Kilmarnock earlier in the season and getting the 4-0 victory was an unbelievable result.

“Kilmarnock have gone on to pick up a lot of points. The league has really condensed and it is a really exciting competition as no team knows what they are going to get.

“But it’s what we want – intense competition and proving our worth.

“Things change so quickly. When I was down the road clubs could jump 10 positions in the table in just a few games.

“Given the run we’ve had it is really important we start picking up as many points as possible. Hopefully, that starts on Saturday against St Johnstone.”
