Ross County: Woods deal extended, but Severn leaves Dingwall

Gary Woods is to extend his loan deal at Ross County until the end of the season from Leyton Orient, but fellow goalkeeper James Severn is leaving Victoria Park.

Woods joined the Staggies from the English League 2 club in September and his loan is to be extended until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old was brought in as cover for goalkeeper Scott Fox and had a run of nine games when Fox injured his ankle earlier in the season.

Former Scunthorpe United goalkeeper Severn was signed as an amateur, but with Fox now fit he has been released.

Manager Jim McIntyre said: “James has been fantastic for us.

“He came in and did us a real turn when we were short due to Scott’s injury and I cannot speak highly enough about his attitude.

“He’s a good goalkeeper as well, but obviously we cannot keep three.

“Gary will stay on loan here, we’re just waiting on the paperwork to be completed.”

County are still awaiting news on forward Craig Curran, who was substituted after 17 minutes of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Highland rivals Caley Thistle with a head injury.

With leading scorer Liam Boyce already sidelined for four weeks with a broken hand, the Staggies’ attacking options could be limited, but McIntyre has urged fellow forwards Brian Graham and Alex Schalk to make the most of opportunities should Curran be out for a long spell.

He said: “Craig is being assessed by the doctor, the good thing was it wasn’t a contact injury. It was an awkward fall, so we’re pleased about that.

“Hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later but it’s an opportunity for Alex or Brian, who have been waiting patiently because of the form of Craig and Liam.”

Despite County’s attacking shortage, young forward Kyle Macleod’s loan stint with League 2 outfit Elgin City has been extended until the end of the season, with the 20-year-old having netted three goals in 21 appearances for the Black and Whites.

McIntyre added: “Kyle will stay with Elgin, as it’s important he gets games, and it’s a step up from the under-20s.

“That’s part of his development. He’s been in and out of the team lately but he came on against East Fife on Saturday and scored.

“He started really well and then had a tough period. That’s all part of learning and growing.”
