Cove Rangers turn focus to SPFL play-offs

Cove manager John Sheran enjoyed a day to remember for everyone associated with his club.

The Aberdeen club won the championship in style on Wednesday night with a 3-0 win at Clach and completed their league campaign with a 2-2 draw at Turriff on Saturday.

There was to be no win to complete the campaign as Turriff rallied to earn a 2-2 draw but Sheran said: “It was a fantastic end to a great season, the players showed in the first hour just how much it means to them.

“But credit to Turriff, they came back, as they always do, no team ever gets an easy game here, but over the season the players have been absolutely fantastic.

“The fact we have never played a game at home makes it even sweeter, we told the players last summer that it was something they would have to deal with, it was a challenge for them, and they’ve done it fantastically well. We have to thank the people at Banks o’ Dee, Inverurie, Formartine and Keith for allowing us to play on their pitches, they have been really supportive throughout the season.”

Sheran can now turn his attention to the SPFL play-offs against Edinburgh City and added: “We picked the team today with the first leg of the play-off at Inverurie on Saturday in mind. We gave one or two players who have been working really hard of late a rest, we are looking forward to it and need to find our best form again if we are to get through.”

Turriff United manager Ross Jack claimed his side did enough in the second half to take all three points. The former Everton, Norwich and Dunfermline forward said: “Huge congratulations to Cove, they have been the best team this season and thoroughly deserve their title and I wish them well in the play-offs.

“That said, if there had been another few minutes on the clock may well have nicked it.

“We got off to the worst possible start by losing a soft goal and then got caught again. We changed things about at half time and managed to get at them in the second half.

“We had a few tired players at half time who were pretty tired after their exertions over the last few weeks so we switched things around and I was delighted we got it back to 2-2 with a strong second-half performance.”
