Caley Thistle are closing in on the appointment of Paul Sheerin as talks with the Aberdeen under-20s coach gather pace.
Inverness received permission to speak to Sheerin from the Dons this week, with new Highlanders chairman Willie Finlayson seeking to appoint a successor to Richie Foran, who was sacked last week.
Discussions have taken place, with Sheerin understood to be keen on the opportunity to manage the club he played for during a three-and-a-half year spell between 1998 and 2001.
Caley Jags are hopeful of making an appointment in the next few days and Sheerin now looks to be the frontrunner for the vacant position, with former Caley Jags assistant manager Maurice Malpas having also been considered.
Sheerin, 42, has been in his current role with Aberdeen since 2014 when he left his job as manager of Arbroath in order to replace Neil Cooper as the Reds’ under-20s coach.
