Aberdeen defender Andrew Considine believes his team will respond to Saturday’s Premiership setback at St Johnstone.
Steven MacLean’s late goal gave Perth Saints a 1-0 victory at McDiarmid Park against a below-par Dons, who have lost two of their three league matches in the new campaign.
Considine went closest to scoring for the visitors when his first-half header cannoned back off the crossbar. That was a rare Aberdeen chance as they struggled to break down a stubborn St Johnstone rearguard.
But the 27-year-old reckons his side will be more ruthless when Partick Thistle visit Pittodrie this weekend.
He said: “We showed how lethal we can be last season, so it was disappointing not to score given the ability we have in the side.
“I thought my header was in. The goalkeeper didn’t get a touch on it. At the very least, I thought it was going to come off the bar and hit his hands and go in. That summed up our day.
“It was a sore one to take. We managed to find a way to win most of those type of games last year. We didn’t create anything clearcut, but they had two chances and took one of them.
“We will start again, have a full week of training, and get ready for Partick Thistle on Saturday.”
The defeat means the Dons are ninth in the Premiership after taking only three points from a possible nine.
More than 3,000 Aberdeen supporters made the trip to Perth to watch the League Cup holders take on last season’s Scottish Cup winners.
Considine added: “We have a fantastic away support. They came down in their droves once again and it is disappointing we let them down. They were fantastic throughout last season and I am sure it will be the same this year. We felt fresh but we just didn’t find a cutting edge or create enough chances.
“We still have enough confidence and we will dust ourselves down and get ready for next weekend.”
Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson is a doubt for Saturday’s visit of Partick after limping off with a knee injury against Saints.
