Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has spoken of his shock after former captain Russell Anderson was rushed to hospital last night.
Anderson, 36, collapsed in his family home last night and was immediately taken to hospital in Aberdeen.
McInnes says doctors have yet to establish what caused the Dons legend to collapse but has reassured fans that he is ok.
McInnes said: “It’s not something you expect with a guy of his age and fitness. So it was a surprise to us all last night when we heard the news.”
“I spoke to Russell just before I came in, in anticipation of being asked that. He’s absolutely fine.
“He’s in hospital in Aberdeen but there is every chance he will get out tonight. They just wanted to keep him for 24 hours and do the tests to rule everything out, more than anything.
“He’s talking away fine. One or two of the players have spoken to him, I spoke to him this morning and prior to coming in here.
“He’s absolutely fine and just keen to get home now, obviously, once they’ve done the relevant tests.
“They don’t know what it was yet – but it’s obviously something outwith the norm and they need to get to the bottom of it, so it doesn’t happen again.”
