Higgins returned to the Cove squad last weekend after injury.

Cove Rangers completed their first month in League 2 unbeaten with a 3-0 win over Queen’s Park.

Defender Daniel Higgins gave the Aberdeen side the lead with his first goal of the season before loanee Matty Smith extended the lead in the second half.

Fraser Fyvie bagged his second in as many games with six minutes to go to seal the points.

Paul Hartley’s men remain top of the division in their first season as an SPFL club, with four wins and a draw from their opening five games.

Cove made one change to their team, with Scott Ross coming in at the back to replace Ryan Strachan.

After a quiet opening 20 minutes, with only Matty Smith threatening the goal, Cove took the lead in impressive fashion with Higgins clipping in a near-post corner from Jamie Masson that went in via the crossbar.

Skipper Mitch Megginson came close to adding a second six minutes later when he collected Declan Glass’ pass and galloped forward. His clipped effort from just inside the box narrowly missed the far post.

The home side ought to have been two up at the break with great play between Megginson and Glass to tee up the on-loan Dundee United man. With the ball dropping to him 10 yards out and with only the goalkeeper beat, Glass volleyed over the bar and out of the ground.

Cove played into the strong wind in the second half and through Ross’ header, which was claimed by goalkeeper William Muir, had a rare sight of goal.

They were in need of a second goal, however, and it came with another flowing move that Smith finished off. Megginson fed Harry Milne just inside the box, with the full-back rolling in the overlapping Masson to slide across the six-yard box and Smith tapped in.

Victory was assured with another well-taken goal, with Masson again the provider with a first-time pass that allowed Fyvie to run clear. He remained calm and steered the ball beyond Muir for the third.
