Cove Rangers boss Jim McIntyre reckons today’s opponents Partick Thistle are getting back to their best after a sticky spell.

The Jags started the season as one of the in-form sides in the Championship but a recent six-game losing streak knocked them off course.

Ian McCall’s side have beaten Arbroath and Kelty Hearts in their last two fixtures, however, and appear to have steadied the ship.

They head to Cove today looking to dent the home side’s impressive record at the Balmoral Stadium.

“They had that six-game run where it just wasn’t falling for them,” said McIntyre. “They did have a few injuries to key players which is important to any team.

“They’ve got a strong pool of players and I’m sure they would have been looking to pick up more points than they have.

“But they’ve bounced back with a couple of good results and it looks like they’ve got their mojo back.”

In the previous meeting between the two sides in September, Cove came from two down to grab a point at Firhill thanks to a brace from defender Mark Reynolds.

“We were a different team down there to what we are now,” added McIntyre. “We’d just got a few boys in playing in their first games for us.

“Partick were excellent in the first half and gave us a lot of problems. We showed great resilience to come back and nick a point.

“They should have had the game dead and buried and that highlights the Championship – if you don’t put teams away they can come back at you.

“We need to be a whole lot better than we were that day to get a result.”

Only defender Kyle McClelland will be missing for Cove.
