Brora Rangers grab their biggest win of season with 8-0 victory

Brora Rangers recorded their most emphatic win in the league so far this season with an 8-0 victory at Lossiemouth.

The Cattachs, who are three points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand of second-place Inverurie Locos, enjoyed a comfortable afternoon at Grant Park.

Brora were 4-0 ahead at the interval thanks to goals from Tom Kelly, Martin MacLean (2) and Bjorn Wagenaar.

The goals continued after the break with Jordan MacRae, Paul Brindle, Greg Morrison and Dale Gillespie all scoring.

It was the first time this season that Brora had scored eight in one match, having previously notched seven against Turriff, Buckie Thistle, Clach and Lossiemouth.

Brora player-manager Steven Mackay was pleased with his side’s display.

He said: “The boys played well and were fairly comfortable throughout the game.

“I’m not sure if Lossiemouth had a shot on target so it was a quiet afternoon for Joe (Malin).

“We were delighted to get three points and win so convincingly.

“It was pleasing to score eight goals and the goals came from all over the park.

“Andy Macrae and James Wallace didn’t score, despite being instrumental to how we played and the goals we did score.

“It is good to see midfielders and defenders chipping in with goals.”

Mackay admits his side can’t afford to take it easy as they look to open up a bigger gap at the top of the table.

The Brora boss, whose side host Nairn on Saturday, said: “Inverurie Locos had a good win at Forres on Saturday and Fraserburgh managed to get the better of Buckie. Rothes also had a good win so there are a few teams who are snapping at our heels and waiting for us to slip up.

“We made it clear to the guys that we need to go into each game with the same level of application and mentality.

“We can’t afford to slip up as these teams will look to capitalise.”
