Keith FC: Lady Luck has abandoned us

Post Thumbnail

No Lady Luck, no rub o’ the green for the Maroons just now – indeed the first mentioned was being rather nasty on Saturday against Clach.

Not so much smiling as more of a brutal grimace to be quite honest as Keith made it 11 successive competitive defeats.

Up the main street on Saturday it was the Keith Extravaganza culminating with the Christmas lights being switched on.

Meanwhile at Kynoch Park a truly battling committed, passionate performance from Gordon Winton’s side bore no fruit and it might have been better had the floodlights been switched off unlike the switching on of the Christmas lights!

Not a bad display, definitely much better than the outing to Fort William or the midway Shield defeat against Cove.

Some good football, ending with a well taken Michael Ewen goal to put the Maroons in front.  Unfortunately instead of going for the half-time cuppa a goal to the good – a momentary switch off allowed Clach to square matters.

Then, a great strike from Clach’s Penwright although it took a deflection off young Hamish Ritchie and flew into the net.

Even then, we dug in and hit back and when Craigie Cormack nabbed his first ever Kynoch Park goal, those of us with Maroon scarves around our necks were beginning to dream of a late winner to put us in early festive mode.

Jings, no don’t be silly – when you are down near the bottom and deep in a losing run you are unlikely to get any breaks – and that’s what happened.  We should have defended tighter – but allowed Penwright room and time to turn and ram home what turned out to be the winning goal.

Jeez oh – we just can’t buy a win  just now, and are well and truly stuck in that third bottom spot.

No point in bemoaning the fact though, ‘cos that’s just where we are – so we can only keep plugging away and hope that sooner rather than later the tide will turn.

It’s not a position that Keith FC fans are familiar with, but it is what it is and we must persevere and give our total support to the management team and the squad of players.  The win will surely come and when it does – boy what a celebration!
