Striker Rory McAllister is on the verge of leaving Peterhead and joining Cove Rangers.

The Blue Toon captain, who is under contract at Balmoor until the summer of 2021, submitted a transfer request on Monday.

Manager Jim McInally and the club’s directors held a meeting yesterday to discuss the issue and decided they would listen to potential offers.

League 2 leaders Cove then moved quickly to make a bid and the Press and Journal understands a five-figure deal was agreed last night.

McAllister is seeking a fresh challenge having spent eight-and-a-half years with Peterhead.

The 32-year-old joined from Brechin City in the summer of 2011 after knocking back interest from the likes of Aberdeen, St Mirren and Motherwell.

McAllister has been a goalscoring sensation in the lower leagues of Scottish football since leaving Caley Thistle in 2009.

He racked up 58 goals in two seasons at Brechin before his arrival at Balmoor.

McAllister continued his remarkable run of form following his move to Peterhead and has scored 198 goals for the Blue Toon.

He was named PFA League 2 player of the year in 2014 after helping the Buchan men win the title.

Last season he was instrumental in the Peterhead becoming League 2 champions again, while another of his undoubted highlights as a Blue Toon player came in an incredible Challenge Cup tie at Falkirk in August 2015 when he scored all five of his side’s goals in a 5-3 win against the Bairns.

He then helped Peterhead go on to reach the final of the competition and play Rangers at Hampden.

With 113 goals since the start of the SPFL era, McAllister holds the distinction of being the leading scorer since the body’s formation in June 2013.

McAllister had claimed he envisioned ending his career at Balmoor when he signed his
last contract extension in 2018. But he had a change of heart and decided it is time to move on.

When the signing is completed it will add to Cove’s already impressive strikeforce of Mitch Megginson, Martin Scott and John Robertson.
