Staggies can avoid relegation, says Scott Fox

Ross County goalkeeper Scott Fox believes the Staggies possess the experience necessary to escape relegation.

County remain three points adrift at the foot of the Scottish Premiership following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat by Celtic. With only seven games remaining, time is running out for the Staggies but Fox, a first-half replacement for Aaron McCarey, believes his side are capable of grinding out enough points in their remaining fixtures to stay up.

County face a huge game in Dingwall tomorrow evening against second bottom Partick Thistle and Fox is eager to help County return to winning ways against his former side.

He said: “I was really close to being relegated to the Championship with Partick Thistle one year. The boys know we are fighting for people’s livelihoods so we will keep going until it is impossible.

“Sport is nerve-racking. When you have got relegation riding on it, everything is cranked up but we have some experienced players as well as youngsters so we will grind it out.

“It could come down to who handles the challenge better mentally. In certain games, the nerves will take over. It is about making the right decisions at the right times. We will see how it goes but we are confident we can get out of this.”

Fox, meanwhile, said County captain Andrew Davies apologised to his team-mates after he was sent off six minutes before the break for a wild challenge on Celtic midfielder Scott Brown.

He added: “I think Andrew thought it was a red. There was no argument in the changing room.

“We are going to miss him on Tuesday as he is a big player for us but the ones who can step in are more than capable.

“He feels like he let the boys down. That can happen in football and we will move on.”
