Reguero aiming to make County mark

Spanish goalkeeper Antonio Reguero is returning to the Highlands after joining Ross County on a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old, who began his career at Real Madrid, made 28 appearance for Caley Thistle during the 2012-13 season before joining Kilmarnock on a free transfer.

Reguero signed a two-year contract at the Rugby Park side but failed to make an appearance for Killie and will move to Dingwall on a free transfer.

Staggies manager Derek Adams said: “Antonio is an experienced goalkeeper and knows the league well. He is looking forward to pre-season training and working with the squad.”

Reguero will challenge Mark Brown for number one spot at Victoria Park after the club released Michael Fraser at the end of last season.

The Spaniard is the fourth new signing at Victoria Park as Adams shuffles his squad, trying to improve on last season’s seventh-place finish.

Northern Ireland international Liam Boyce, 23, has signed a one-year deal from Cliftonville, while Portsmouth forward Jake Jervis and Raith Rovers midfielder Joe Cardle are also moving to Dingwall.

Boyce, who netted 84 goals in 181 appearances during two spells at Cliftonville, is looking forward to a fresh challenge.

The forward joined German side Werder Bremen in 2010 but barely featured and rejoined Cliftonville a year later.

However, he feels confident he can make his mark in Scottish football and said: “I was a bit naive when I went to Germany and thought I’d be going straight into the team to play. I had to do a lot of hard work and it made me a better player but maybe I was too young to approach the whole thing in the right way. Now I’m not thinking like that. I’m going to Ross County to work hard.”
