Gary Woods keen to take his Staggies first team chance

Staggies keeper Gary Woods recently became a father for the second time.

Ross County goalkeeper Gary Woods was delighted to prove he is a capable replacement for the injured Scott Fox by keeping a clean sheet in last night’s 2-0 win at Kilmarnock.

Alex Schalk and Brian Graham were on target as the Staggies moved up to fourth in the Scottish Premiership with a 2-0 victory at Kilmarnock.

It was a pleasing return to top team action for on-loan Leyton Orient goalkeeper Woods, who replaced the injured Fox, who will miss this month’s League Cup final against Hibernian with a knee injury.

Manager Jim McIntyre confirmed after last night’s match that Fox is expected to be out for eight weeks because of the medial ligament injury and Woods said: “The team effort in front of me tonight was brilliant. We showed a good reaction from Saturday when we lost 3-0 and I was pleased on a personal level to keep a clean sheet.

“I am disappointed for Scott as we get on well. It is hard for him to take but obviously it is a chance for me to play more games.

“It was a massively important result for us as there are teams below us in the league who have games in hand. If we can keep winning then it will put the pressure on them.

“We want to keep winning games and stay in the top six.”

Kilmarnock manager Clark was frustrated by his side’s limp display. He said: “We gave away two bad goals.

“Ross County looked like the side who were fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table rather than us, which was very disappointing.”
